It was on Christopher's move to London after leaving school that his enthusiasm for medals began in earnest thanks to his father's interest and Christopher’s short period of territorial service in the HAC (Honourable Artillery Company) whilst working in The City. Collecting was already in the blood with stamps and other things, but an early medal 'find', despite the relatively huge prices being fetched then, was Christopher's baptism into the world of medals. Being in London he was able to visit all the auctions and fairs and got to know the London medal fraternity well. One of his first acquaintances back in the late 1970s was Nimrod Dix now Executive Chairman of DNW. Commodities gave Christopher the opportunity for much international travel and it was during this time that he was able to visit and make friends with many medal collectors around the globe. Whilst based in New York in the 90s Christopher was a regular attendee at OMSA and exhibited there too. For several years Christopher and a good friend hosted annual battlefield tours around the Western Front and to Gallipoli which were also renowned for good food, wine and late nights! When the OMRS closed down their London meetings in 1999, Christopher established the London Medal Club, a convivial monthly group now into its 22nd year, which reflected his enjoyment of the social side of medal collecting which he believes makes the medal collecting hobby so rewarding.
Christopher is a regular speaker at various Medal Societies and Conventions as well as other societies on the subject (mostly African related stories) Christopher is also a regular exhibitor at OMRS. He particularly enjoys the opportunity of meeting fellow collectors to chat medals whilst on his regular travels around Britain and overseas in his role as DNW's Head of Client Services.
Christopher was married in July 2017 and in recognition of his three step children has had their name of Mellor with Hill combined.
