Jim Brown
Jim's interest in coins started at the early age of six when his mother, who was a sub-Postmistress, brought Victorian bun Pennies home from work. He attended Hamilton Academy and later graduated MA (Hons) in French from the University of St Andrews in 1973 before moving to London where his first job was with the City branch of the Bank of America. However, after a year in auditing, Jim decided that a career in coins would be preferable.

Joined B A Seaby Ltd in June 1974 as a junior in the Foreign Coin Department working under the tutelage of the late Margaret Amstell, who was a wise teacher and with whom he travelled widely throughout the 1970s, meeting clients on three continents. This began a life long-interest in the coinage of medieval Europe while dealing more widely with coins of the world in general. A move to Knightsbridge Coins in 1980 meant a continuation of dealing with foreign material while also handling and learning about the whole series of British coins.

For the next twenty years Jim attended all of the major British and many international Coin Shows gaining experience across the whole range of the coin business, handling many major rarities in the process. His company's move into auctioneering in 2004 meant an opportunity to learn the art of cataloguing.

In June 2007 Jim made a late career move to Dix Noonan Webb specialising in British coins from Celtic times to the present day as well as foreign coins from early medieval period onwards.
