Greek coinage, Sicily, Katane, Drachm, signed by Euainetos, c. 405, auriga, holding kentron and reins, driving fast quadriga right, Nike flying left above, crowning charioteer with wreath, KATANAIΩ N in exergue, rev. head of river-god Amenanos left, wearing tænia, two fish and crayfish around, AMENANOΣ above, EYAI below, 4.33g/3h (Rizzo pl. 14, 7; SNG ANS 1263; Kraay-Hirmer 38). Of the finest classical style, extremely fine and attractively toned, very rare; perhaps the finest known example £9,000-12,000
