Footnote

Charles Schuyler Bruff (1750-1823), Master in the Royal Navy, seniority 8 April 1780. Bruff was Master of the Orion 74, Captain James Saumarez, which ship played a distinguished part in the defeat of the French fleet at the battle of the Nile.

His son, also Peter Schuyler, was a noted civil engineer. He also appears to have been the brother of the noted American cutler and silversmith Charles Oliver Bruff.
