John Gearing Thomas was born in Harwell, Berkshire in 1843 and was educated at Abingdon, Berkshire. He moved to Abergavenny in about 1870 and worked as a building contractor. Connected with the public life of the borough for about seventeen years, he was a Councillor and was appointed an Alderman in 1899 and unanimously elected Mayor for the Coronation year on 9 November 1901. He died at his home, ‘The Glen’, Abergavenny, on 15 September 1906. With copied research.
