A black opal and diamond cluster ring, the oval cabochon black opal claw set within a surround of brilliant-cut diamonds, mounted in white precious metal, shank stamped ‘18ct’, accompanied by an I.G.N. gemmological report, ring size R. £2600-3000

Condition Report

Opal measures 17.5 x 14.3 x 8.35mm, the stone is composed of a patchwork of coloured cells and has some internal fractures, but these don’t appear to be surface reaching; there are some light scratches to the surface; the play of colour is bright throughout, but really all greens and blues. The diamonds are present and correct, bright and lively, approximately 0.08-0.1 carats each. The mount shows general light surface wear only. Cluster measures 24 x 21 x 12mm.

Footnote

The Istituto Gemmologicao Nazionale report number 25643, dated 11th April 2018 confirms the natural Australian black opal weighs approximately 12.50 carats, and the diamonds have a total weight of 1.8 carats, with an average clarity of VVS-VS and an average colour of H-I.
