Béran, aerial view of Brioni and harbour, rev. golfer playing a shot between two bushes, to right a shield bearing inscription in black ink (I. Prize, L.M. 193[–], 79), 117 x 75mm. Extremely fine, an attractive golfing plaque; in original blue fitted case of issue by Leopoldo Janesich, Gioielliere, Trieste [this partly fragile] £120-£150

The Brioni Old Course, at Fazana, Croatia, opened in 1922, was said at the time to be the largest golf course on mainland Europe. The 18-hole course was designed by Tom Simpson and George Thomas. The ‘79’ on the medal almost certainly refers to the number of strokes played; today the course is a par 72
