Date of Auction: 1st & 2nd December 2020

Sold for £280

Estimate: £40 - £60

Miscellaneous Tokens and Checks, KENT, Yalding, John Miller, bone 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1m, all 25mm (Henderson –) [5]. Very fine or better, rare £40-£60

Provenance: R.G.P. Kerridge Collection.

The late owner thought that these were made by prisoners of war, perhaps interpreting the m as marks, but there was no camp in the vicinity of Yalding in World War I. The likelihood is that they date to the second half of the 19th century
