FootnoteWilliam Alfred Turner was born at Hafod Y Bwch, Ruabon, Wrexham and enlisted in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers at the Depot, Wrexham, on 10 April 1893, at the age of 19. Posted to the 1st Battalion on 1 December 1897, he served with them in South Africa during the Boer War, before transferring to the Army Reserve in January 1903. He was discharged on 9 April 1905, after 12 years’ service.
Supplementary medal roll also confirms entitlement to the Orange Free State clasp.
