James Smith was born in the Parish of Waltham Abbey, Essex, and enlisted into the 3rd Foot on 1 May 1811. He served in the Light Company and was discharged at La Prairie, Canada, on 24 May 1815, in consequence of being wounded in the foot, toe amputated, in action with the enemy at ‘Platzburg’ in the United States of America in September 1814, and from a wound in the throat at Mayo (Peninsula). James Smith is shown on the Pension List of 25 October 1815. Sold with copy discharge papers.
