C/JX 226657 Ordinary Signalman Arthur James Kyrke-Smith was killed on 25 November 1941, when H.M.S. Barham was attacked and sunk after being hit by three torpedoes fired from the U331. The destroyers Jervis, Jackal, Nizam and Hotspur rescued 450 survivors but the ship’s Commander, Captain Cooke, and 861 men perished.
