Sold with original 56th (London) Division gallantry card giving his citation: “On the 29th August 1918 at Croisilles, this N.C.O. showed great energy and initiative in breaking down nests of enemy machine guns and volunteering to bring in the wounded under heavy machine gun and rifle fire. On the 30th after all the Officers and Sergeants of his company had fallen, he took command and showed great initiative in leading the company to the attack.”
