Of Royal Interest: A signed and framed photograph of Queen Alexandra, in coronation robes and wearing the consort crown, signed below ‘Alexandra’ in ink across the photograph margin and mount, taken in 1902 by Royal photographers W. & D. Downey, 61 Ebury Street, SW, together with a framed print of Queen Mary, first: dimensions of photograph 19.5 x 14.8cm, dimensions of frame 28 x 33cm. £50-£80


Photographers William and his brother Daniel Downey were Victorian photographers, originally from Newcastle, setting up their London studio in Ebury Street in 1872. Apparently among Queen Victoria’s favourite photographers, they received the royal warrant in 1879.
