Sarah Bernhardt interest: A French emerald and diamond set oval locket pendant, the oval hinged locket in bloomed gold, the front centred with an emerald and old-cut diamond cluster within a fine black enamelled scrolled border, surrounded by six smaller quatrefoil clusters, each comprising three round-cut emeralds and an old-cut diamond, to plain suspensory loop, bearing French eagle’s head assay marks, locket length including suspensory loop 40.5mm. £400-£600

Provenance: Formerly the property of Sarah Bernhardt, thence by family descent. Within the locket is a small lock of blond hair from Bernhardt’s son, Maurice, born 22nd December 1864.
