1582 Citation for M.C. - ‘For conspicuous gallantry in assisting and in exploding a large mine against enemy galleries. After the explosion he, at great personal risk, dug down into the enemy's galleries from a point in "No Man's Land" thereby capturing and consolidating 700 feet of them and rendering infantry in this sector safe from enemy mines, also capturing valuable mining apparatus and other identifications. During this operation Lt. McMillan was cut off from our lines for twelve hours.’
